SUMMARY:IK01 - Investigating Epistatic and Pleiotropic Genetic Architectur
es in Bioenergy and Human Health
DESCRIPTION:Keynote, Plenary\nLife Sciences\n\nIK01 - Investigating Epista
tic and Pleiotropic Genetic Architectures in Bioenergy and Human Health\n\
nJacobson\n\nThe new CoMet application consists of implementations of the
2-way and 3-way Proportional Similarity metric and Custom Correlation Coef
ficient using native or adapted GEMM kernels optimized for GPU architectur
es, and received the 2018 Gordon Bell Prize. Nearly 300 quadrillion elemen
t comparisons per second and over 2.3 mixed precision ExaOps are reached o
n Summit by use of Tensor Core hardware on the Nvidia Volta GPUs. These si
milarity metrics form the major parts of largescale Genome-Wide Epistasis
Studies (GWES) and pleiotropy studies. These efforts seek to identify gene
tic variants that contribute to individual phenotypes, including susceptib
ility (or robustness) to disease. We are using CoMet to investigate the ge
netic architectures underlying complex traits in applications from bioener
gy to human clinical genomics.
