SUMMARY:Quantum Computing for Particle Physics Applications
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\nComputer Science and Applied Mathematics, Emerg
ing Application Domains, Physics\n\nQuantum Computing for Particle Physics
  Applications\n\nSpentzouris, Vlimant\n\nQuantum Information Science explo
its quantum properties of physical systems for acquiring, communicating, a
nd processing information beyond classical capabilities. Successful applic
ations of Quantum Computing could be beneficial, potentially transformatio
nal, for High Energy Physics (HEP).  Such applications could enable s
olutions of numerical problems and studies of fundamental properties of na
ture not possible with classical approaches. Investigations are underway t
o use near-term quantum computing hardware (NISQ - Noisy Intermediate-Scal
e Quantum devices) for solving theoretical and experimental HEP problems r
anging from physical systems simulations, to gauge theories, to machine le
arning and optimization.  In my talk I will discuss these topics, as
pursued by Fermilab scientists and collaborators.
