SUMMARY:Scalable and Extensible Software for Simulating Long Term Tectonic
  Processes
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\nComputer Science and Applied Mathematics, Physi
cs, Solid Earth Dynamics\n\nScalable and Extensible Software for Simulatin
g Long Term Tectonic Processes\n\nMay, Sanan, Brown, le Pourhiet\n\nA long
standing issue within the lithospheric deformation community has been the
absence of a fast, flexible, scalable and extensible toolkit for studying
long term tectonic (LTT) processes in three spatial dimensions. In this p
resentation I will overview the open-source LTT software package pTatin3d
(https://bitbucket.org/ptatin/ptatin3d). Specifically, I will discuss the
over-arching design choices made and the unique software components associ
ated with the non-linear / linear solvers and the Lagrangian material poin
ts (particles) which have led to both a performant and flexible LTT toolki
 t. Lastly, I will touch upon some of the unresolved issues (of both techni
cal and practical origin) and discuss some of the new features of pTatin3d
  which are currently in development.
