SUMMARY:H-Matrix Accelerated Second Moment Analysis for Potentials with Ro
 ugh Correlation
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\nComputer Science and Applied Mathematics, Chemi
stry and Materials, Physics, Engineering\n\nH-Matrix Accelerated Second Mo
ment Analysis for Potentials with Rough Correlation\n\nDölz, Multerer, Har
brecht\n\nWe consider the efficient solution of linear operator equations
with random right-hand side. The solution's two-point correlation can effi
ciently be computed by means of a sparse grid or a low-rank approximation
if the two-point correlation of the right-hand side is sufficiently smooth
. Unfortunately, the problem becomes much more involved in case of rough d
ata. The H-matrix approach to correlation equations is a suitable alternat
ive for rough data and has been applied to various problems in the literat
ure. However, the approach itself is based on the H-matrix arithmetic, who
se parallelization is rather involved. The talk will discuss the obstacles
in the parallelization and present an alternative algorithm with improved
  properties for parallelization.
