SUMMARY:Multi-Dimensional Fully Compressible, Time Implicit Simulations o
 f Hydrodynamical Processes in Stars
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\nComputer Science and Applied Mathematics, Physi
cs\n\nMulti-Dimensional Fully Compressible, Time Implicit Simulations of
Hydrodynamical Processes in Stars\n\nBaraffe\n\nI will present the recent
development of a multi-dimensional, fully compressible hydrodynamical time
implicit code MUSIC devoted to stellar and planetary interiors. I will di
scuss the main challenges in the computation of multi-dimensional stellar
structures and some of the advantages of our approach with MUSIC for the s
tudy of stellar fluid dynamics problems. MUSIC is an implicit large eddy s
imulation code that uses implicit time integration, implemented as a Jacob
ian-free Newton Krylov method. The code is interfaced with a ste
llar evolution code which provides initial 1D stellar structures for any t
ype of star and allow exploration of a wide range of stellar phases and ma
sses. A major motivation for these studies is to derive new prescriptions
to be implemented in stellar evolution codes and to be tested against vari
ous observational constraints. I will briefly present some current applica
tions, namely 2D/3D compressible envelope convection and convective penetr
ation in stars, and future developments of the MUSIC code.
