SUMMARY:The Macroeconomic Model Database
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\nComputer Science and Applied Mathematics, Emerg
ing Application Domains\n\nThe Macroeconomic Model Database\n\nStrobel\n\n
Many models aim to explain the dynamics of macroeconomic aggregates. These
models differ in underlying theory, economic features, scale, and often a
lso in the software in which their code is written. Any given economic pol
icy is likely to have different effects in different models. Yet, both, co
mparison studies across models, and replications of models that are used a
s arguments for policy advice are rare! The Macroeconomic Model Database (
MMB) attempts to close this gap. It is a model archive, based on a common
computational platform (Matlab/Octave and Dynare). It contains 128 models
and allows for a quick and easy comparison of the implications of some pol
icies across these models. Next to the comparison of models in macroeconom
ics, we aim at making research results more reproducible. The large majori
ty of codes for the models has been replicated within our team or by PhD s
tudents based on the available public information with the goal of reprodu
cing the results provided in the respective academic articles. Lastly, we
are currently in the process of allowing users to work with the MMB and al
l its features in a fully open-source environment.
